Holy shit. I...

I don't know how to process this news. It's just not computing.

For all her crazy up's and down's in her personal life, she was one hell of a singer. That's how I'll remember her.

rebecky_mo: First look of Usopp after timeskip (SQUEE!)
So today was one hell of a shitty day right from the start.

1) Livejournal didn't work for me this morning.
2) a guy phoned in sick to work as I was LITERALLY walking in the door.
3) I nearly caused an electrical fire. =_=;
4) I ordered a HUGE amount of stuff today, figuring I'd have a GOOD co-worker in with me today instead of Mr. Slow McNewKid. Bite me in the ass much life?
5) Lots of stupid people asking lots of stupid questions.
6) As I was LITERALLY a minute from being done, a lady comes up to me and says her daughter broke a jar of pickles in aisle 1. Naturally, I stayed 10 minutes late picking it up.

I decided I needed to spoil myself with fandom, and spent $100 at my Local Comic Shop (stupid Ninja Turtle Ultimate Collection, why so pretty? TvT) and got Lady and the Tramp on DVD/BluRay. It's not my favorite Disney movie, but I'm determined to get them all now.

And of course they had their usual promotional pamphlets inside. Stuff for a new Tinkerbell movie (Secret of the Wings), Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3 (Ay Dios.), a reminder for The Muppets and to get Beauty and the Beast/Bambi before April 30th (naturally!)...They also had news about upcoming Combo Pack releases, including:

Lion King 1 1/2 and Lion King 2 (sometime in 2012)
The Aristocats (August 7th)
The Rescuers 2 Movie Collection, with both The Rescuers AND The Rescuers Down Under (Summer 2012)
Pocahontas 2 Movie Collection, with Pocahontas AND Pocahontas 2 (Summer 2012)
Lady and The Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure (Summer 2012)

And the biggest news....?
Cinderella (Fall 2012)
Aladdin (Spring 2013)

I got the Aladdin Special Edition way back and the two Rescuers on DVD already (no WONDER they were in the $10 bin), but still! EXCITEMENT~! I actually hope they do a 3D theater event for it, because THAT movie would be boss using it.

The power this company has to make 12 hours of bullshit just melt away. Take my money Disney; take it allllllllll... <3

EDIT: HOLY CRAP DEAN CAIN IS ON CRIMINAL MINDS. WHERE WAS ALL THIS AWESOME AT WORK TODAY?

"Neither Mathew Ho nor Asad Muhammad can vote, or buy beer.

They haven’t been accepted to college yet, though that might change after this story.

The 17-year-olds have already sent a (Lego) man into space.

Two weeks ago, Ho and Muhammad launched a homemade balloon carrying a Lego passenger and four cameras. It fell back down to Earth 97 minutes later with astonishing footage from an estimated 24 kilometres above sea level, three times the typical cruising altitude of a commercial aircraft. Their jerry-rigged contraption recorded the Lego man’s journey from a soccer pitch in Newmarket to the stratosphere — high enough to see their two-inch astronaut floating above curvature of our planet, clutching a Canadian flag with the blackness of space behind him.

The project cost $400 and took four months of free Saturdays. It wasn’t a school assignment. They just thought it would be cool.

...“It shows a tremendous degree of resourcefulness,” says Dr. Michael Reid, a University of Toronto astrophysics professor. Noting that similar projects had been undertaken by PhD students, he said, “For two 17-year-olds to accomplish this on their own is pretty impressive.” "

Now this? This is cool. Check out the pictures linked to the story!

Just venting over work. Pay no attention unless you want to know why I want to make my boss bend over, just so I can shove my boxcutter up his ass sideways.

Venting in 3...2...1... )

Boss, I know you don't even want to go on this fully paid, company-wide vacation to Cuba you're going on next week (WHAT.), but I'll take a pay cut if you agree to just...just STAY down there. We can manage just freaking fine without you and your fiancee around every day; I do it everyday, and I know the more sane Managers of the other departments can too.

"Popular file-sharing website, Megaupload, has been shut down by the federal authorities. Oh, and it turns out its CEO is a music producer. Quite a famous one.

Before we get to the good part, here's the skinny on the takedown. The indictment, which was just unsealed today, accuses Megaupload of breaking anti-piracy laws and claims its pirate-enabling ways have cost copyright holders more than $500 million in lost revenue. According to reports, charges have been laid against seven Megaupload employees - four of which are already in custody in New Zealand. The Department of Justice reckons this is "among the largest criminal copyright cases ever brought by the United States," and listed the coming charges as "racketeering conspiracy, conspiring to commit copyright infringement, conspiring to commit money laundering and two substantive counts of criminal copyright infringement."

Megaupload's side projects, Megavideo, Megapix, Megabox, and yes, even Megaporn have all been taken down as well.

Now, you might recall that Megaupload was having some legal troubles with universal over a bizzare hip-hop video praising the Megupload service. Now the video makes a bit more sense as it turns out it was produced by Megaupload's CEO, who is none other than multi-million selling hip-hop producer Swizz Beatz. Yes, that Swizz Beatz. The one married to Alicia Keys."

And here we are again, the end of another year; 3 hours to go here. At times 2011 seemed to fly by, and then other times it seemed like days were dragging on. The world's changed alot this year; countries rose up, dictators fell, and it's still going on into 2012.

My life in 2011 wasn't nearly as exciting as that, but stuff did happen.

The highs and lows )

...I completed 14 pieces of fanwork this year. Fourteen.

That's more than I did in 2009/2010 combined. I think it's the most I've done in a year since I started working full-time and living alone. I was afraid I was losing my love of art for awhile, afraid I was going to lose one of the only real hobbies I had. Instead, I found new muses in Raoul and Tracks, Piccolo and Sailor Jupiter, and drew. I even started writing real stories again, which I hadn't really done since my Sonic the Hedgehog fandom days, almost a decade ago (if you want a laugh, they're on my FF.net account).

I'm not going to pretend I'll ever have the same amount of fanwork as I did working part-time and having my meals/laundry/shopping done for me (that was living, I tell ya!), but one or two pieces a month? I'd be happy with that.

So. *raises a glass of Coke* Adios, 2011; may 2012 bring as many (preferably good) surprises as you did in the last 365 days.

...But not the apocalypse. I think we can all live without that little surprise. XD;;;

Just watched my co-worker, Jason Medeiros and the McMaster Marauders win the Vanier Cup (for Canadian Interuniversity football) 41-38 in double overtime against Laval's Rouge et Or.

Laval's 6-0 at the Cup, and McMaster's never won it. Until tonight.

And now it's 2am, and I am WIDE AWAKE because HOLY SHIT CRAZIEST GAME EVERRRRRRRRR. And I don't even LIKE football. LOL.

The Muppets.

51 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

100% Fresh rating.

T_T <3333

It's taking all of my willpower to not buy/download the soundtrack until AFTER I see the movie. I wouldn't be able to resist playing it and spoiling myself.

Not only do we get to see the Muppets back in action.

Not only do we get to see a brand spanking new Toy Story short from Pixar, called "Small Fry" (which looks awesome, but who's surprised by that?).

But now.

NOW, there's people saying that also attached to The Muppets will be the trailer for Pixar's next animated blockbuster, Brave.

...It's official, Disney's trying to kill us with awesome. Entire theaters full of people are going to drop from the sheer overdose of win.

And by that, I mean very little sleep. Poor guy gets maybe 4 hours sporadically each night, and it seems I'm going to follow his footsteps. Over the last few years, I've noticed that I keep getting up earlier and earlier; a few minutes here or there.

The last couple months, I've been waking up around 6am every day, be it Wednesday or Saturday. I don't have to leave the house until 9am for work, and going back to sleep doesn't happen for me. Sleeping in doesn't exist, unless I stay up until 1 or 2am, and even then it's only maybe til 9, meaning I just get a normal nights sleep.

NOW I'm waking up at 5:30am. Hoo boy...

Tonight, One Piece episode 517 airs.

Tonight is the night the Strawhat crew comes together again on Saobody Archipelago, two years after being split up by Kuma.

Tonight is the true first step to the New World.

I am so freaking excited for this!

GIVE ME MY MANSOPP~! *_*

Maybe we'll even get to see new episodes sooner than the USA, like with TF:Prime (Mwahahaha!)

But OH MY GOD.

Two weeks ago today, I was frantically trying to complete my costume for Anime North, which was occurring the next weekend. I spend two full days (aka 12 hours a day or more) sitting at my dining room table getting the thing done.

BUT, I got it done. I was happy with it, and all geared up for that Thursday, when I was planning to leave. After two years, I was going back to Anime North!

...Wednesday afternoon at work, I get a phone call.

Up north, my grandmother's gone into the hospital. It's really not looking good for her; people are coming in from all over the country.

After A LOT of talking (and some arguing) on the phone, my father finally convinces my sister and I to go ahead with our plans for the weekend, and I would drive up with my sister to be home in case the worst happens. We do so, and I did enjoy the convention. But the situation back home never leaves my mind.

It only gets worse when we hear from our dad late Saturday that our mother is back in the hospital for the 5th time this year, as yet another complication from her surgery has come up. This time it's a pulmonary embolism (aka blood clot in the lungs). My sister can't drive in the dark, so we decide to leave for home early on Sunday.

My father neglects to mention our mother was taken to the hospital via ambulance (my dad had been at the hospital already with our grandma) and put into the ICU. Didn't want us worrying. Right.

So after a long weekend, we pull into the driveway, and within 15 minutes we're going to the hospital to see our mom and grandma. Mom is weak, pale, and being loaded with blood thinners, but she's good. She came home on Friday afternoon, hopefully for good this time.

And grandma...is absolutely stunning her doctors. Her kidney function is up from 10% to 40%; she's awake, and speaking a little bit despite the drugs she's on. 11 days after being admitted, she's fully conscious, and while weak and unable to feed herself, is eating a small liquid diet. She's nowhere near out of the woods, but there's actual hope.

For the last week, I was running back and forth to the hospital, doing errands for my family, and visiting friends and more family. I was expecting to go to a funeral.

For all the changes in plans the last week, I'll gladly take that result .

*goes to flop onto couch*

So, 11 months ago, I underwent surgery to deal with an abscess in my intestinal tract, which had been causing me pain for MONTHS. They had to do a resection (for those not in the know, that's when they remove part of the intestine, and reattach the two parts again). Took me MONTHS to recover, mostly because the opening decided to be a bitch and not heal properly. This was my introduction to the world of Crohn's.

So early in March, my mom wound up going into the hospital. For the first time in 13 years (since she got her ostomy), she was having complications from her own Crohns's (it's believed to be genetic). She was in there for a few days, getting her nutrition back up, and was put back on medication.

She was back there last weekend with pains, and this time they discovered and abscess they hadn't seen the last time she was there. They put a drain in her, and sent her home after a few days with instructions to see Homecare to get it replaced/cleaned every couple days. The whole time she was feeling pain.

My dad wound up rushing her to ER Friday night; the abscess had burst, and needed to undergo surgery for the first time in 13 years yesterday. She wound up not only getting a resection, but they also decided to move her ostomy from her one side to the other (meaning removing/sewing up one side of her, and reopening/implanting on the other side).

She'll be in the hospital for at least a week. She's going to be out at minimum 6 weeks; she's in pain because the morphine just ain't doing it for her this time (immunity buildup?).

EDIT: Just spoke to my mom via the hospital who had better info (and apparently is on better meds). Turns out it wasn't just an abscess, but a fistula, which had been leaking into her body and out the drain. So she's now got 4 separate openings that need to have packing done.

I'm pissed that the CAT Scan didn't show how damn bad this thing was, that the Homecare nurses didn't suspect anything when my mom was complaining of pain, and that they let my mom out so goddamn early in the first place. Two days is NOT enough time.

And even though dad told me not to worry, I really, REALLY wish I wasn't 5 hours away right now.

*goes off to plot for a longer Easter visit*

So for Anime North 2011 (Late May), I'm cosplaying as Checkmate from obscure (to North America) fandom Kinnikuman Nisei, aka Ultimate Muscle.

Photos are under the cut )

I'm hoping to have all three of these pieces done by the end of February (I have a few three-day weekends coming up, so that should help). Next will come the gauntlets, crown, and belt.

XD; Wow, 2 months since I updated, how sad. But what a time it's been! So much to catch you guys up on. Let's start with:

New Job
Yes, I've gotten a new job. Moved to a new city, even! It all happened the VERY last week of November, in which I drove 5 hours for a job interview in Hamilton, ON. 5 days later, I was offered the job, and accepted the job.

The next 10 days were spent in INSANITY. We drove down to Hamilton that very weekend, looked for apartments, found one we liked (but weren't accepted til 2 days before I moved. YEEP.) I gave my notice to my old job, and between working my last shifts there starting packing, buying stuff for the new apartment, getting things settled, ordered cheques (for my rent payments), and half a zillion other things.

I've been here a month now, and it's been going good. (see below in "Living in Hamilton")

Christmas/New Years
Ah, the holidays; I may have just moved a week or so before, but no chance in hell was I missing it with my family. I wound up leaving for home immediately after work Friday the 22nd.

Like, literally. I'd brought my packed stuff with me to work, was done at 4:30, was on a GO Bus to Toronto by 5, and was heading to North Bay by 7:30. It all went rather smooth, actually.

...Until the buses transmisson blew at about 9:30pm. Took over an hour for another bus to get to us so we could continue on. Fun. XP;

ANYWAYS. For the next 9 days I helped my mom make scrumptious Cabbage Rolls (which I better get some of next time they come visit me. D< ), got to see the family I didn't get to say bye to before I moved, had yummy Xmas dinners, updated my former co-workers on how Hamilton was (tell ya, I don't miss working Xmas/New Years Eve there!), and hung out with my family.

Presents? I got a lot of stuff before I moved, so gifts were understandably few. I did get a pair of PJ's, some cookbooks, and some DVDs (Hairspray, Justice League, Old School TMNT).

I was back in my apartment by New Years Eve, and just really spent the night/day chilling out. I was wiped after the week before. It was actually really nice. xD; Went back to work for the 2nd, and that's about it.

Living in Hamilton
So far, so good. Starting to get settled in at the new job, and I'll be going from 9:30-4 soon, giving me a 1/2 hour to learn on my own afterwards. By February, I'll be putting in my full 40+ hours/week.

Which means money. Money is goooood. >_>;;

And I'm finally having a bit of time to explore the area for more than groceries. There's this comic shop a little ways up from my work, and it's actually pretty nice; not only can I get my Sonic comic there, but they sell manga too! ^^ Don't have to go to Toronto every time I need to get the new volumes, or pre-order them (well, except Eroica)!

Also looked at a few Fabric shops in the area for cosplay resources. And lo and behold, one has Black/White CHECKERED fabric! The exact thing I need for my Checkmate cosplay. I'm THRILLED. :D I'mma figure out how much I need and get it ASAP (I will NOT see that stuff sold before I get it).

Drawing
....I admit, I'm being lazy. ^^; I have to work on a few Xmas Secret Santa pics before month's end (one WILL be done tonight, dammit). Only then will I get to some of my ideas I wanna draw.

Yeah, you guys read that right; I had some MAJOR issues with my laptop over the last 5 days. First, I was working on a piece in Photoshop when the program shut down on me. Tried to restart it a few times, and no good.

Well, fine then! I'll just restart my computer, no problem.

Or not.

Once the thing began restarting, it would freeze during the startup of the OS X program (Mac laptop). It could go for HOURS without really starting up. Tried to start it a couple times for a few days, no go.

NOW I'm getting worried.

So I go onto Apple's site, over to Support Discussions for help. I get it (put in the Installation disk and hold 'C' as you startup), but I made a mistake and actually re-install the program, which I wasn't supposed to do. I pick the wrong options and all that too.

But hey, my laptop's turning on! Everythings hunky-dory again.

EXCEPT ALL MY FILES ARE GONE. HO S***!!! Thankfully I kept a good chunk of my art and resumes on a disk, but I lost some of my most recent art (last 7 months or so) and all my images and music. So now I'm wondering if I should be happy or not. I actually begin to accept the fact that it's all gone and try to start over.

But today I called my local Staples to see if they do Data Recovery, and turns out they do. So I may actually get my stuff back (I hope).

So yes, stressful couple of days. If I DO get my files back, I'mma delete all the stuff I wasn't worried about and re-burn my art and such. I was working on some things, as I said, so we'll see how soon those things get done now.

Computers, OI.
