oh, dear... an abscess AND a fistula? they must have missed something. fistulas can be very difficult to spot, though, unless they're blaringly obvious. i'm glad she's on proper meds now.
if she's feeling idle while you're cooking and MUST do something, bring her some vegetables to peel where she sits (even if she's in bed). she can do that without much effort. she may be too tired after all this to do anything, but you know mothers.
