Family Day for one, please.

So today in Canada is Family Day, a fairly new holiday in which people are meant to spend time with their families (hence the original sounding name, lol).

Thing is I live about 4 hours from ANY family, and everything is closed for the holiday. Soooo, I'm having a little 'Me Day', getting some stuff done I've wanted to finish FOREVER. I've just finished a coat of paint on my living/dining room, and in between coats I plan on:

~ Baking a cake (since my mom baked apple pie on the weekend and I can't get any. D:)
~ Going through all my bills and tax crap
~ Posting some IDW TMNT scans at [community profile] scans_daily since I've been SO BAD at keeping up with that.
~ Finishing up a Tracks/Raoul fanart tonight
~ TRYING to write something.

Will it all be done? STAY TUNED!

...Oh, BTW. I happen to have a DreamWidth account, for anyone interested; [personal profile] rebecky_mo. It'll be mostly the same stuff that I post here on LJ, but if anyone on my F-list is interested in freinding me there, feel free to (and recommend me to any communities I don't know about there)

I miss the routine. :/

First off, thanks to the anon(s) who sent me a belated valentine/LJ Gift last night. It wasn't what I was going for with my post last night, but I appreciate it. <333

My work schedule is really throwing me off lately. I typically work Monday through Friday, 9:30am - 5:30pm, with my weekends off. It's not my preferred time, since it means I don't get home and start dinner until 6:30 each night, but it's something I'm used to.

But over the last few weeks I took over for my vacationing boss, putting me in at 8am - 8:30am for about 1.5 weeks (which I actually really enjoyed, since I got out early enough to do running around or cook a real meal for dinner). Then I had last Thursday off and worked the Saturday.

This week, I had a normal shift Monday, worked 1:30pm-9:30pm Tuesday, had today off, have regular shifts Thursday/Friday and 1-9pm on Saturday. It also sounds like I may be working Sunday, since three of my co-workers (who usually work weekends) all booked the day off. So much for my 3-day weekend to really get stuff done; I won't even be able to get running around done on Family Day (Canadian holiday on Monday), since everything is closed. But this is all boring real life whining.

I haven't been able to write anything lately, but I am working on a new Tracks/Raoul art piece. It's kinda kicking my ass since it involves both human anatomy AND car anatomy (the one thing I've drawn even less of than boy-parts, LOL), but I'm liking it thus far.

If my writer's block sticks around much longer, I may put a call out to get prompts for mini-fills from my F-list to get me going again. We'll see...

Eh.

Well, I didn't get any love from [livejournal.com profile] tf_valentine. I guess I'm not surprised, I've only been in the fandom 6 months. But I'm glad the people I sent love to in it enjoyed their comments.

And I was stuck working tonight, since everyone else in the dept booked it off/had other things to do. I did get a bouquet of flowers from my boss though, even if it was only so the store wouldn't get stuck with them dying after V-Day.

But hey, free roses are free roses.

Is this destined to be my 15 minutes of fame?

So the Canadian reality game-show 'Instant Cash' was filming at the local mall a month or so back. I saw them doing it, but was kinda terrified at the idea of it, due to embarrassing stunts and pretty varied question themes...

But a new 'Cash Cab'-esque game show on Food Network Canada, where people answer questions about food/cooking at an unassuming ice cream cart to win instant cash?

I NEED TO BE ON THIS SHOW, YOU GUYS. OMG. ToT I'd happily embarrass myself doing some stupid things (if needed), because I think I know enough about food that I'd have a freaking chance!

Video under the cut )

Anyone I know in Ontario, if you see ANYTHING about this show being filmed nearby, let me know? <333

EDIT: Just watched the premiere. HOLY CRAP, this game is easy. Now I REALLY want on it.

...Anon Memes frustrate the HELL out of me sometimes.

Don't mind me, just need a moment to seethe here?

Won't mention WHICH Meme brought this on, but those who track the thread in question might know the one I mean. Basically, Anon puts out a prompt; it's an interesting kink, and the prompt is fairly specific as to what Anon wants.

Another Anon quickly says they're going to fill the request as an art-fill, and gets it done within a few days. IMO, the pairing is actually depicted as in-character as the kink allows, is funny while still bring hot, got a good bit of what was asked for in, and was done quickly. Others who checked it out agreed. OP!Anon responds to the fill and thanks Fill!Anon, even though it 'wasn't exactly what they wanted, and was a little hard to take seriously'. Whether they intended it that way or not, it came off a little ungrateful.

Now, I've put out prompts in various anon memes, including this one in question, and I've had fills that took a different route than I expected, but I thoroughly enjoyed nonetheless and thanked them for the work they did. I've also had tons of my prompts left to collect dust among the hundreds of others ones, that I would have loved ANY kind of fill for, be it Crack or Angst or even a just a paragraph. It also makes me even more hesitant to do Art-fills for prompts that actually can be DONE as art, as so many prompts tend to be detail/lead-up heavy (and everyone EXPECTS fic, dammit all).

Anon, if you didn't quite mean it the way you did, someone took hours of their time to make something especially for you, while others aren't getting a damn thing; be polite and thank them properly. If you wanted one of the prolific Anon!Authors to take it up, they still could have afterwards, (though you may have shot yourself in the foot with your response.)

And if you want something filled and exactly like your vision, do what I did, and sit down and write it yourself.

Damn oral hygiene crap...

For those that don't know, (which is probably all of you, LOL) I hate going to the dentist. Like, a lot.

Oh, it's not that I've had bad experiences or anything with them; my dentists have always been decent guys and all. And it's not even that I'm prone to cavities, 90% of my check-ups have good results.

It's just that over 20-ish years, I've gone through having 1) palate expanders, 2) retainers, and 3) braces, alongside the typical cleanings and cavity fillings. I still have braces behind my bottom front teeth that I despise.

Add in the fact that my gumline has a habit of bleeding when I get checked/cleaned, I have some really fricken sensitive teeth, and temporomandibular disorder in one side of my jaw (we're going to try a night guard for that. Yippee.) that makes it SUCK to keep my mouth open for an hour straight...

Yeah, I'm really over people poking inside my mouth.

Oh well, one cavity free checkup down this year, and another 4.5 months until my next visit. Yay. :X

FINALLY.

It's snowing. Really snowing.

And not nasty, wet, slushy stuff being whipped around by cold wind like we've been getting. It's the white, fluffy, gorgeous-looking flakes just drifting down softly like one expects during wintertime. *_* I doubt it's going to stick around long (we're due for rain later this week. Again.) but for now, I'm going to enjoy the prettiness.

Meanwhile, I'm doing some anatomy practice. Because I should probably try to get body structure figured out. >_>;;

Geez, what was I doing at 17?

"Neither Mathew Ho nor Asad Muhammad can vote, or buy beer.

They haven’t been accepted to college yet, though that might change after this story.

The 17-year-olds have already sent a (Lego) man into space.

Two weeks ago, Ho and Muhammad launched a homemade balloon carrying a Lego passenger and four cameras. It fell back down to Earth 97 minutes later with astonishing footage from an estimated 24 kilometres above sea level, three times the typical cruising altitude of a commercial aircraft. Their jerry-rigged contraption recorded the Lego man’s journey from a soccer pitch in Newmarket to the stratosphere — high enough to see their two-inch astronaut floating above curvature of our planet, clutching a Canadian flag with the blackness of space behind him.

The project cost $400 and took four months of free Saturdays. It wasn’t a school assignment. They just thought it would be cool.

...“It shows a tremendous degree of resourcefulness,” says Dr. Michael Reid, a University of Toronto astrophysics professor. Noting that similar projects had been undertaken by PhD students, he said, “For two 17-year-olds to accomplish this on their own is pretty impressive.” "

Now this? This is cool. Check out the pictures linked to the story!

Going Pro(biotic) / 20,000 words? / Random Crack

I've decided to give probiotic pills a shot, getting a bottle with enough for 2 weeks and seeing how it goes from there. It's mostly an experiment to see if they affect my digestive system one way or another, but I know probiotics are good for you and I don't eat yogurt and such very much. We shall see.

And I'm kinda sorta thinking about doing [livejournal.com profile] scifibigbang. Basically it's 20,000 words in 5 months, running from March to July with a Sci-Fi/Fantasy based fandom or universe. Much less scary sounding than NaNoWriMo (Less words! More time!), and I can either use my Sailor Moon/DBZ crossovers or Transformers ideas. I have some thinking to do...

Meanwhile, after rewatching various Disney movie clips on Youtube, my brain has decided that putting Raoul as Aladdin is an awesome idea. There will likely be art of this idea down the line. Said brain can't decide if Tracks should be Genie or Jasmine, though (he fits the Genie description more, but...love interest! D:)

THIS JUST IN! MegaUpload taken down!

"Popular file-sharing website, Megaupload, has been shut down by the federal authorities. Oh, and it turns out its CEO is a music producer. Quite a famous one.

Before we get to the good part, here's the skinny on the takedown. The indictment, which was just unsealed today, accuses Megaupload of breaking anti-piracy laws and claims its pirate-enabling ways have cost copyright holders more than $500 million in lost revenue. According to reports, charges have been laid against seven Megaupload employees - four of which are already in custody in New Zealand. The Department of Justice reckons this is "among the largest criminal copyright cases ever brought by the United States," and listed the coming charges as "racketeering conspiracy, conspiring to commit copyright infringement, conspiring to commit money laundering and two substantive counts of criminal copyright infringement."

Megaupload's side projects, Megavideo, Megapix, Megabox, and yes, even Megaporn have all been taken down as well.

Now, you might recall that Megaupload was having some legal troubles with universal over a bizzare hip-hop video praising the Megupload service. Now the video makes a bit more sense as it turns out it was produced by Megaupload's CEO, who is none other than multi-million selling hip-hop producer Swizz Beatz. Yes, that Swizz Beatz. The one married to Alicia Keys."

Boring nonsense, carry on.

So weird having days off during the week, especially after working only one day; I normally work Monday to Friday, but the holidays always throw that off. Plus a weekend guy broke his leg, so I have Friday off, work Saturday, then have Sunday off. Yeah. Weird.

Since I did nothing on New Years and I'm 90% over my cold (broke New Year's Eve night. Figures.), I decided to go out and spend some money at the mall. Bought "The Great Muppet Caper", "The Muppet Movie", "The Iron Giant", "and Julie and Julia" for $10 each at HMV, and spent $20 on new shirts at Reitman's since my old ones are woefully small; it was kinda picked over though, I'll have to go back after the Boxing Day sales. I almost bought Greatest Hits CD's of Journey and Lonestar too, but remembered I can get them cheaper on iTunes (Current mainstream music? What's that? LOL).

Currently doing some sketches based on my Tracks/Raoul fic 'Danger: Sudden Swerve', and I'm taking on the January challenge at [livejournal.com profile] tf_rare_pairing, which is the pairing of your choice from a third-person POV. This is the perfect opportunity to continue 'Close Encounters' with a certain red boombox... ;D

2011: In Retrospect

And here we are again, the end of another year; 3 hours to go here. At times 2011 seemed to fly by, and then other times it seemed like days were dragging on. The world's changed alot this year; countries rose up, dictators fell, and it's still going on into 2012.

My life in 2011 wasn't nearly as exciting as that, but stuff did happen.

The highs and lows )

...I completed 14 pieces of fanwork this year. Fourteen.

That's more than I did in 2009/2010 combined. I think it's the most I've done in a year since I started working full-time and living alone. I was afraid I was losing my love of art for awhile, afraid I was going to lose one of the only real hobbies I had. Instead, I found new muses in Raoul and Tracks, Piccolo and Sailor Jupiter, and drew. I even started writing real stories again, which I hadn't really done since my Sonic the Hedgehog fandom days, almost a decade ago (if you want a laugh, they're on my FF.net account).

I'm not going to pretend I'll ever have the same amount of fanwork as I did working part-time and having my meals/laundry/shopping done for me (that was living, I tell ya!), but one or two pieces a month? I'd be happy with that.

So. *raises a glass of Coke* Adios, 2011; may 2012 bring as many (preferably good) surprises as you did in the last 365 days.

...But not the apocalypse. I think we can all live without that little surprise. XD;;;

And yet another holiday trip ends

One week and a Christmas later, I'm back at home, waiting to go back to work tomorrow. BOOOOO.

So, how did it go? Well, it was kind of up and down....

fa la la la la... )

I think I've caught a cold though; my throat's been scratchy since Sunday, and now I'm coughing. Of course.

And I didn't get any art/fic done while traveling; I slept through most of both trips, just because of how freaking early the trips were (I was on the move by 6am, both ways). But from the sounds of it I'm not doing anything for New Year's besides working, so I may try something holiday-related this weekend. If not, there's always next year. XD;

Joyeux Noel, Feliz Navidad, Sung Tan Chuk Ha, etc, etc

I begin my travels home for the holidays in about...*checks clock*...10 hours. Still have to do dishes, toss out my trash/the food in my fridge, charge my ipod, and finish packing stuff (including my computer).

And yet all I wanna do is veg, watch Storage Wars, and sleep. Go figure. =_=;;

Anyways, this will likely be my last post for a week (as my parents have crappy internet), so I'll wish my F-list a Happy Holidays!!

Hoopefully when you hear from me next week, I'll have some art/fic to share. 5 hours on a train makes for good artistic time. <3

All I Want For Christmas...

So I caved, and made myself a 'stocking' over at [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking.

My fandoms and pairings are almost always obscure or downright non-existent, but I figured, hey, why not? I might at least get well-wishes (which may have to be all I give there; most of everyone else's fandom/pairings I have no knowledge of. D:)

I'd say 'stuff my stocking!' but that would sound greedy. And perverted.

TF Art: Of Punks and Geeks

WARNING: CRACKYCRACKY CRACK CRACK.

I mean, they've never even been in the same damn episode; there's no proof they'd even met.

But they'd totally be the best human team up in Transformers ever. A strong, street smart punk that's awesome with machines, and a determined computer geek genius that doesn't let his disability slow him down? HELL YES. And they could build stuff together that may or may not blow up like Wheeljack's stuff! I blame this comic for sticking the idea in my head (it's even Christmas themed!)

P.S.: Most of these sketches are over 4 months old. They kinda hit the back burner working on Close Encounters and other fic...

P.P.S: Yes, I do have a thing for 'Opposites Attract' teams/pairings be thankful I didn't have them kiss...yet.

P.P.P.S:...I have no idea where else to x-post this to on LJ, if anywhere. XD;

I am not leaving this couch until bedtime. Period (well, except for snacks, but that doesn't count). You want to see a person's true colors? Take them grocery shopping; you'll see them at their worst. -_-

Good enough.

It took an entire can of paint, 3.5 coats, and some serious touching up. BUT, I can call my accents walls done more or less to my approval. The last touches are still tacky, but I'm slowly putting things back to normal.

And I'm 15 minutes away from finishing my laundry and getting dinner in the oven.

NOW, for the last thing on my 'To Do' List this weekend... *eyes the Raoul/Tracks 'Five Firsts' Challenge*
